Seeing how I get a lot of support requests with the same questions, here is a FAQ for WHS Mobile.
Q: I launch the app but nothing happens after “Initial Configuration." What do I do?
A: You need to launch the iPhone’s settings application and enter in the WHS Mobile settings. Please read the instructions here and the dialog that pops up on first launch.
Q: I don’t have any icons for folders/shares like in your screen shot. Am I missing something?
A: I was using an icon pack that I put together, you can find it here. Place the icons in the respective share and then set the file to hidden. To do that, right click the file and choose properties. After that, check “Hidden” in the properties box that appears. Click OK, and the file should disappear.
Q: What if I don’t have a domain setup in remote access? Can I still use WHS Mobile?
A: Yes, you can still use WHS Mobile. In place of the domain, enter in your remote IP address.
Q: I get “domain cannot be found or contacted.” What do I do?
A: Make sure your Home Server is up to date and has the .NET 3.5 update. Did you port forward according to the instructions (here)? WHS Mobile doesn’t support symbols in the username only letters and numbers. There is a bug with iOS 4.x that prevents the WHS Mobile settings port from properly defaulting to 8169. Just go to settings, clear out the port, retype the port, and restart WHS Mobile on your iPhone. If it still doesn't work and you are connecting locally via Wi-Fi, make sure your router supports loopback and that you can connect to your remote access site via Safari on your device.
Q: I am getting an error that my username or password is incorrect but I am sure that it isn’t. Did I do something wrong?
A: Make sure you allowed your account in the WHS Mobile settings on the Home Server. Also, make sure you have the latest version of the add-in installed on your Home Server.
Q: When it says to fill in the domain, what does that mean? Do I add http:// or https://?
A: You enter in the full address minus the protocol information (no http:// or https://). For example, you’d simply enter in “myname.homeserver.com” or “myname.com.”
