Thanks for the update!

Just wanted to let you know that when I installed the update to the phone and the server it would not let me connect to the server at first. I seemed to have resolved the matter by uninstalling the add-in on the server and then reinstalling it. I had some strangeness going on with Avast on the server also, so it is possible that I'm an isolated incident.

well the new version pretty much broke me, when i click on my music from the iphone client it justs closes and goes back to my springboard. not sure what to do because it was working before the update....

Hi!

I love this app, I have to say that. You're doing a great job. But, when I installed the new version I'm not able to stream my music anymore. The Music folder are organized with the group and album, and the songs are in that folder again.

I have updated to the newest software on both the WHS and my iPhone.

I have opened the necessary ports so I can't figure it out:(

What happens when you try to stream? What happens instead of streaming? Try playing one file by navigating to it, tapping it, and then tapping Play. What happens then?

I am having the same crashing issue. Worked fine before the upgrade, then updated the app and uninstalled and reinstalled the add in ( I was using 1.52 before, but updated the add in to 1.53). Now, the app crashes when I go into music or photo folders, but not software. I have about 50 gb of music in the normal whs share folder. Organize dby artist, with subfolders by album

Hi again. Well my problem is something similar. I can navigate to any folder and click the song directly. The problem is when I hit play it says it's unable to stream. And if I use it long enough the program stop showing me files in different folders etc. Then I have to restart;)

Ah crap I'm getting "Failed to connect".

Had not issues with the previous issues, and it didn't say but thought I'd be better of uninstalling 1.5.2 and then installed 1.5.3

Made no changes other than that, and now have an app I can't use. Any ideas on what I should do next, the domain details etc remain unchanged. :$

I really appreciate the focus going from admin to documents and media! After all how often do I have to do admin tasks compared to accessing files! It's still crashing quite often though.

One killer feature would be to pull files for offline viewing. That and making the whole thing more stable would get me into app nirvana (or at least not regret getting an iPhone over WinMo to start with, as it currently stands ;-)

Ignore my earlier post, got it sorted in the end.

My problem was that the App hadn't actually updated itself, because there was a conflict between my UK iTunes account and the fact that the App was downloaded using the US store.

I've since gone and bitten the bullet and purchased from the UK store to avoid any future issues...so Brent not only did you get my $10 up front, but you've got another paying customer in the process.

I'm seeing the same problem as others have reported. Any folder I try to open with many items in it causes the iphone app to crash. Most recent iphone app version and 1.5.3 on the server. I tried rebooting the iphone to no avail. Uninstalled 1.5.2 before installing 1.5.3 add-in. Best of luck to Brent. The new features sound cool. Looking forward to checking them out.

First i realy would like to tell you thank for this last update, this work realy realy must faster than the 1.5.2 serveur add-in on my french WHS.

And this one work perfectly ! very good addin for my iphone & my WM6.5 phone.

We can now preview PDF file, directly take a picture frome the camera to send it, it's a realy good job.

Can you just tell use about where the uploaded pictures are sended on the server ?

Because i created an user only for the iphone remote connection and deleted the iphone userr directory creaed by default in WHS to keep my organisation clear, so i wait your answer to know where the uploaded file are now ?

I had the orginal version of the iPhone app and the add-in installed but I just updated to 1.5.3. I followed the install instructions but I cannot login. I have tried public domains and private. I have rebooted the server and run iis reset but I can seem to login. I get the login failure.

Hi. I was looking in my photos folder. In the next update of this fabulous app, could you for example put view folder in photos? And put in a delete button to if it's possible. I still have problem with streaming music. Seems like my only problem. Can't wait for an update or solution, because this app is going somewhere great;)

Upgraded...works great. I can now play my mp3s which are all 320kbps, open pdfs and docs. Brilliant. Even my 7 year old was impressed.

The new Update works great and it´s much faster then the old version. The problem i have is only a litte Problem. When i navigate in the Files-Tab i can see the text only but the icons that should appear left beside the text aren´t visible. In the User-Tab i can see the icons. I use the current iPhone Version and WHS-addin 1.5.3.

Are the items that don't show icons next to them folders/shares and not images? If you download the folder icon pack in the v1.5 post you can use those to show icons next to the shares - that's what I do.

I don't quite understand what you mean by view folder? View without thumbnails? As for streaming, what bitrate are your mp3s (you can check via Windows - shows up in file properties)?

Hello Brent,

When you say "It uploads to the folder/share you were in when you uploaded."

The folder need to have the full right of the user to modify the content or that can work if it's only in read mode ?

I'm new to WHS and have a DIY setup and just installed your app and after a few goes and reading through previous posts have got my Iphone to log on to the server, however, I only get the menu icons no files, directories etc on my server. Can you suggest where I might be going wrong?

just wanted to reitterate that others are having the same app crashing problem as Russ. Any directory with a large number of subfolders crashes the app. This did not happen on the last version. Thanks for your work on this.

The bit-rate on my music files is 128 and 192.

By view folder I meant that if you have an option to be able to view the whole folder, as a slideshow if you want.

Jonny and JB,

When you tried uploading a photo, did your account have write privileges in that folder and share? I just tried uploading to a share that I did not have write privileges in (only read) and it did what you said. It seemed to upload successfully but the file was no where to be found. I then tried uploading to the Photos share that I had full access to and it did the same thing, except the file was listed (successfully uploaded). It uses your permissions, if you can't write then neither can the App. This is mainly for security and peace of mind.

How long does it take before it tells you the file cannot be played? Pretty quickly? Or is there a 10 second or more delay?

Your router might not support loopback connections. When outside your Wi-Fi network the HomeServer.com domain should work.

I don't know but maybe a week. I just have to redesign how it functions because I've moved from using a Windows Service to using IIS that comes with Server 2003.

Hi again Brent!

Problem solved:) I tried posting a comment here last night om my solution, but apparently it didn't go through. But anyway, it comes pretty quickly, so I was thinking its something wrong with the permission for my user. My user had space in it, so I switched back to a user with one name only, and now it's playing. If there is someone else having the same problem, it would be good if they tried it too, because if it then works with the other guys to, spacing is still a problem.

But for now, I have a WHS Mobile working great, I can upload, stream etc etc. :) One thing, in releases after this one, will you put in the possibility to delete folders as well as files ? Because I will probably use this app to clean up a little sometimes to.

With regard to uploading pictures/files:

Scenario 1 - Success

1. Open WHS Mobile on iPhone

2. Navigate to target folder that you have permissions to upload to

3. Select "Options" --> "Upload from Camera"

4. Take picture

5. Select "Use"

6. Create picture name, select "OK"

7. Verify picture is on WHS server in target folder

Scenario 2 - Failure

1. Open WHS Mobile on iPhone

2. Navigate to the same target folder used in scenario 1

3. Select "Options" --> "Upload"

4. Select picture to upload

5. Name picture, select "OK"

6. Verify that picture does not get loaded to folder

I hope this breakdown helps to identify to the portion of the app that is not working. Basically taking a picture from within the application works great, what doesn't is working with a picture that was taken outside of the app.

I thing that will be a very good idea to be able creating setup without requiring live ID.

For example I don't want to open any ports of my WHS live... But instead almost every WM phone will be able to initiate VPN. So please if its possible thing such a function.

- I have 1.5.3 add-in installed on my HP EX475

- latest version of the app on my iPhone

- forwarded all the necessary ports on my router

- no spaces or special characters in username

- have checked a million times that my domain is correct (I can access the WHS remotely on my laptop from anywhere)

I'm getting the "Uh oh! Either the WHS Mobile domain is incorrect, or the domain cannot be contacted" error.

I have tried re-installing both the add-in & the iPhone app a few times but still can't get the thing to work.

Hi, I've bought the ipod app and got it running. When i want to stream an mp3, it takes 20-30 seconds before starting to play. The title of the mp3 and image is showed immediately, but the music starts much later. What could be wrong?

I get a "Oops, data was not received from server" message when I open the app.

I've got all ports forwarded (80,443,8169) to my WHS. Remote access is working, and confirmed from working outside my network as well. I've got a test user account setup to try and get this working, and I've double checked those details as well.

iPhone 3GS with the latest software updates. Any ideas on what I can do next?

downloaded the wh mobile and installed on the server. went to itunes, paid and installed on my iphone.

it works and I can see files and folders as long as there are not many of them. as I wanted to use this to stream music form the server to the iphone.

i just have to click on my music folder and it crashes (goes out to the screen with whs mobile icon)

I have same problem like Neil with iPhone. I can't see the folders from my WHS. Searching for files works good. I use it currently per WLAN. I think i I don't need to setup my router.

Every time i refresh Files per Options I get following error in System-Log on WHS:

I just put WHS Mobile on my phone(WM 6.5), and I can't seem to upload from my images dir. I don't know if it's a limitation in WM or your software. In the open dialog in the folder combo list it has the parent dir(\DCIM\) of where my photos are stored but not the sub folder(\DCIM\100MEDIA\), is there any way to get that folder to show for upload instead of having to copy the files to the parent folder?

With the add-in installed I'm unable to log onto my remote access page, the log on page does not load after clicking the log on button. Anyone have any idea what's going on here? It works fine if I uninstall the add-in and comes back again when I reinstall. I'm using v1.5.3

After hours of trying and I still can't get it to work. Tried both 1.5.2 & 1.5.3 on the server and no luck.

On my WM6.5, once in a while I get this error messgae

I have port forwarding config and tested from another server on the internet by doing telnet to port 8169. So I am pretty sure the connection is OK.

But both my WM6.5 and iPhone still can't connect...

Does it matter if the default web pages for WHS running on non standard ports? (i.e. not 80 & 443)

Hello, I have similar problems on WHS. I bought the WHS Mobile from AppStore, I installed the 1.5.3 msi package to WHS then i went to my iphones settings, and when i connect, there is an Oops with wrong username and password, i enabled guest account it worked for once then i made a password to guest account the problem came back. I think the Authentication is the problem. I reinstalled the 1.5.3, restarted, deleted all accounts, made router changes with MTA to 1500 packet sizes then back to normal. No resolution..

OK, finally I kind of get it to work after reading pages of comments on 1.5.2 & 1.5.3. Installing .Net 3.5 and a reboot seems to work. However, upload photos crashes iPhone app. Streaming doesn't seems to work.

A suggestion for improvement, is when viewing photo "full screen" on a mobile device, rescale it before sending to the mobile device will be faster. Only send original size if download is selected. (or make this feature as an option)

I can see if this app work as design, it will be one of the mush have add ons!

p.s. Is it possible to detect if .Net 3.5 is installed during installation? Or atleast somewhere on the page saying this is the requirement.... and yes, a FAQ section is what everyone asking for... thanks

Great app just bought it.

Maby a suggestion when using google you sometime come on the 1.5.2 page and it is difficult to see the difference to the 1.5.3 page. After some checking i saw i was also foolish and was using the 1.5.2 plugin.

By that means I got the failed to login messages :(. Now it works.

If I can do anything for you just let me know.

(Host a mirror, write some documentation).

If got some spare space in my datacenter so.

Has anyone solved the issue with the app crashing when opening folders with a large amount of content? This never happened in the previous version, and it makes the app all but unusable since my photo and music folders crash the iPhone app. Using 1.53.

I've been reading these threads for several hours, trying to troubleshoot this myself, but cannot successfully get past the 'Uh oh! Either the WHS Mobile domain is incorrect, or the domain cannot be contacted.' (IPod) error.

I do NOT see any new web page in (whiist add in for) WHS, despite 4 installs of the most recent release of the Add-in WHS mobile 1.5.3

I can't get the streaming to work. First it says "preview" and when a choose "preview" it changes to "download" but there's no music.

And I can't see any thumbs for pictures, but if I click on them I get a perfect picture

It appears that the application chokes on directories with a large amount of files to list (e.g. music folder) - I have had the crash issue occur with select photo directories as well. It is as if a buffer is getting overloaded or something. On the iPhone for me, this app does only a fraction of what I intended it to do. Another issue is with photos; for the photos that do appear, if you change the orientation it seems as though the app is downloading the picture again just to change the orientation from portrait to landscape and vice versa. It would be great if these items could be fixed soon. If you need another tester, I'm will to help out if I am able.

Now, I forwarded port 8169 to the home server, setup user accounts. but still my phone won't connect. I did the setup on the settings tab on my Iphone. I get "Either the WHS Mobile domain is incorrect, or the damain cannot be contacted" message.

Hi Brent.

The new Update works great and. I have a a little problem. When i navigate in the Files-Tab i can see the text only but the icons that should appear left beside the text aren´t visible. In the User-Tab i can see the icons. As a matter of fact, I can see the icons on all the other tabs but the Files. I use the current iPhone Version and WHS-addin 1.5.3.

Downloaded and installed 1.5.3 Add-In and iPhone client.

Log-In works fine. Can browse files, but can't open anything but pictures.

PDF, DOC files seem like they try to open, but I end up with a white screen, no content.

Once I try to read a PDF or DOC file, and go back to the folder list, it is empty. Refresh does nothing. Only restarting the app works.

DOCX and XLSX files do not open, nor do they have the option to.

Seems to be a problem with your router, the lack of loopback support. Please try disconnecting from Wi-Fi and use cellular.

Here is the reply I had emailed you:

The delay is because the file has to be transcoded if over a set bitrate of 128 kb/s. The server waits for the file to finish transcoding before streaming the music to the iPod/iPhone. This behavior is perfectly normal and to be expected with high bitrate mp3s.

It is the default dialog that comes with Windows Mobile. I am going to be creating my own custom version so that it will work on the Smartphone versions of Windows Mobile. I will see if I can make it work with sub-folders when I do.

How large is the photo you are trying to upload and did you give it a file name when asked? What happens when you try to stream an mp3? As for not being able to display and folders, run IISReset on your WHS (via CMD or taskmgr - or just reboot..) and make sure you have 1.5.3 installed on it.

OK. I have 1.5.3 working on my WM6.1 Treo Pro, connecting via Sprint. The add-in in WHS setttings has a check box to allow RDP but the checkbox is disabled. Is that supposed to work, yet?

Great App, however there is some weird bug with the software. My WHS is a Dell w/3TB of data. About 1TB is music, MP3 files. Music files are standard mp3 128, organized in folders by artist. Thousands of artists/folders, apx 89,000 songs.

I can access all the other folders on the WHS. Even others like the photos which are quite large collections of files.

I have some small folders not stored in the shared music folder and they work FINE. But those collections only have 80 or so songs.

I can only assume it cannot handle such a large list of folders? About 10 seconds after clicking the MUSIC folder the iPhone exist the program and returns back to the iPhone applications listing.

But again, great app! Hopefully this little bug can be easily fixed!

I also still have this issue with folders with large contents (music and photos), making WHS Mobile still unusable for me. After sitting and spinning for a while, the application crashes. I'm imagining that the whole list gets cached into memory, when it probably needs to be paged or something.

Hey got to say great job, I read through all these posts and I had the same problems. 1 thing is that master clear your phone to factory specs for win moblie 6.5, after doing that install the cf 3.5 then install the app for whs mobile then reboot phone. note that if any errors come up after u start the app and set ur settings its not the phone its on the WHS I tried installing the 1.5.3 and it did not work I then installed 1.5.2 and I kept getting password incorrect, So I then reinstalled the 1.5.3 and pointed to domain at my internal IP it worked great I then changed to my xxx.homeserver.com and has worked fine. This was done with the samsung Jack with upgrade to win 6.5. I can play all music but only wma files download and .mp3 only previews. Pics work fine at their present state in full screen on the mobile. I have not seen anything for viedo and they dont play at all. The speed is quick about 2 sec before play back. the app does very good and it also comes up of the phone with the album covers witch was a surprise. I can see this app going along way and maybe video in the future. I got to say alot of hard work was done for this to come out. I have got to say tho if it done work at first try and try again. I ended up doing a master clear twice before I got it working 100% at its present state. I would like to know whats up with the mp3 files tho and mabe a shuffle play with in the app, hay if you got unlimited data go for it all...Phone is on the att network.........Thanks

What is the ETA on an update? This app promised to be pretty useful for the iPhone, but hasn't really functioned as advertised since I purchased it. I found another little interesting bug - aside from the large directory listing bug (which renders the app pretty useless for me to for even the most basic function). When I actually found a directory that had a small enough number of photos in it (so the app wouldn't crash) - the thumbnails were all wrong and periodically rotated (various incorrect thumbs for a file). When I tried to download the photo, I get the following error: "Image failed to download!" Error Domain=com.apple.photos Code=12 UserInfo=0xe79a980 "Failed to encode image for saved photos.""

Another issue I have is when attempting to play music. When I attempt to play an album it produces nothing - it shows the media player...and nothing happens no matter how long you wait, whether you are 3g or Wifi.

It would be great if you could post an update or some indication that these issues are being addressed and an update to the application is committed to. At this point, I paid for an application that does not do what it advertised it was supposed to do.

The concept for the app is great, and if you're going to finish it and deliver it that would be great. If you have moved on or don't intend to finish it, that's fine too and I understand - we all just need to know.

Hey bret, A buddy and other windows mobile/home server user told me about your app.. I spent a day or two bouncing the diffent vertions in and out of my phone and server trouble shooting many connection issues and finaly got everything working... I think?!? WM device cant stream mp3's ???

While reading trouble shooting posted listed in previous releases i saw a few references to steaming audio... i can access my music and hear what seems to be a ten second preview but i see no way to stream the whole song...

Is this by design of is somthing wrong? is streaming mp3s is researved for iphones or do you plan to include this feature in a future update?

What is supposed to be in the domain name field? Just the domain id, or do you need homeserver.com?

Installed the app on the iphone, addon on WHS. Configured WHS for my userid. iphone app takes forever and comes back with domain name incorrect or cannot be contacted. Then the iphone app locked up and won't do anything. Is there supposed to be some kind of logon sc

The message is not valid since the domain is correct and being used by a bunch of people. So what is going on and how do I fix it?

By the way, I've installed 6 addons and never had anywhere near this trouble with any of them as I have with this addon.

I would really like to see this work, but if it can't be fixed is there a way to get my money back?

Hi!

Just bought your iPhone app despite all the comments about things not working, as I feel its an important product and something I really would like to support. The problem is, when you start selling it, you also have another situation regarding support and obligation than when it's just free...

That said, I also have the problem with crashing when selecting folders with many items in them. Strange thing is that it also happens on other folders, such as one with just 72 items in it. I wouldn't say that that's a particularly large number of files, but what do I know? :p

Here's hoping for a fix. :)

Brent, I was one of your original customers that started reporting errors on your 1.5.3 version and its been 2 months since these issues have been reported. I believe you have had sufficient time to debug and report back your plan for fixes. If you do not have time or the ability to give us updates then please discuss a method for refund of your product. Making your customers come to your support site but not give adequate updates makes us think you have given up on your product. I hope thats not the case and you are making progress but I can't continue to wait with an assumption you will fix this app without letting us know you will. Also, there is no reason to leave the app on my iphone if it doesnt work. I look forward to your response.

Is the 8169 port hard-coded or can I select a different port. I think my ISP might be blocking it. 55000 and 56000 are open according to GRC.com, but it shows 8169 and 4125 closed. I've set up the port-forwarding in the router (as evidenced by the successful openings on 55000/56000). I've tried turning off the Windows firewall as well as the firewall on the router with no success. I know my ISP blocks port 80 and 443, so I had to reconfigure them to 8008 and 8009 in IIS Manager ... would that affect WHS Mobile?

What is the format of the images you are having trouble previewing? What did you use to create the images? I haven't had any problems with viewing images nor had anyone else report such a problem. What is the bitrate of the mp3s you are trying to stream?

Is it possible to connect two devices? My wife has an iPhone and it works ok on hers, although she cannot download anything to the iphone, but my Windows Mobile phone won't even connect. I'm getting an error message but can't decipher it as it goes off the screen it's so long!

I've used this app since the early days on my device and I think it's great, but it's frustrating that as soon as it becomes available for my wife to use mine stops working :(

Jason,

You can only download pictures on the iPhone, that is due to the way the iPhone security and file system is setup. WHS Mobile would only have access to a sandboxed folder to save files and you would have no way to open them. Even if there wasn't a secure sanbox, the iPhone doesn't have any way to browse files or open them. Windows Mobile has File Explorer and can open files stored on the main memory in addition to the storage card. So at the moment, downloading files other than images isn't currently possible because you can't open or use the downloaded files.

I ahve Vista, and IPOD Touch with the up to date OS WHS and can access all my media through an Archos 605 Wifi but after downlaoding the WHS mobile app and entering my domain name as xxx.homeserver.com and my password is a one worder i still get the "uh oh" domain name bla bla bla error message, i've tried entering the ip address as the domane name, ive re-entered the password, installed all the updates, and nothing. If nothing gets resolved soon i may need a refund, not to sure how i go about sorting that out? any ideas???

I have succeded in installing the app on my server and Ipod touch and i can connect to my homeserver. I can see users and i can see upnp settings but i cant see any folders under the filestab. If i do a search i get results back. Just not beeing able to browse folders directly. Anyone have an idea?

I have just purchased this for my itouch Ver. 1.54 and am having an issue where I play a MP3 song and at the first time it works great.. but when i back out and go to choose another song it locks up and returns to my home screen.. I have Software Ver 3.1.3, and I have reinstalled the add-in on my server and it had no affect.. Any thoughts? Pictures and files access great.. but still music issue.
