WHS Mobile v1.0.0.1

Yes, there were a “few” bugs in the last release, namely the issues connecting. But now I am back and have an update with some bug fixes with a side order of features.

Hulk Smash!

    • Port changed from 1045 to 8169
    • Changed it to only download thumbnails when the file view is toggled to large icon.
    • Removed remnants of the access log, because it wasn't being used anymore.
    • Changed the thumbnails maximum size to 100x100 pixels for higher resolution mobile devices.
    • Windows Mobile phones no longer need to already be connected to the internet before use.

Upgrade!

    • Added the ability to rename files.
    • Added the ability to delete files.
    • Added the ability to upload files.
    • Improved menu items for file mode and the home page.
    • Bundled EmailControl for controlling your WHS via email or text message. (Read below for details)

EmailControl?

What is EmailControl, you ask? EmailControl is a new add-in I’ve bundled with WHS Mobile allowing you to remotely manager certain aspects of Windows Home Server via Email or text message.. Currently, EmailControl has a shot command list (see below) that with your help I hope to expand.

Command and Conquer

Here are the command for EmailControl:

cl  -- Sends the command list.
list shares  -- Sends the list of shares.
list users -- Sends the list of users with their enabled or disabled status.
enable-user: USER_NAME  --- Enables or disables USER_NAME (Change USER_NAME to the user you want to manage)
uptime – Sends the Windows Home Server’s current uptime.
sleep – Puts the Windows Home Server into sleep/standby mode.
hibernate – Puts the Windows Home Server into hibernation.
shutdown  – Shuts the Windows Home Server down
restart – Restarts the Windows Home Server

Permission to Come Aboard?

If you are on the list of allowed emails, then granted.  To allow an email address permission to use EmailControl add it to the semi-colon separated list of allowed emails.

Text Away!

You can also control your Windows Home Server by text message using your mobile phone (SMS). For a list of providers and their Email to SMS gateway information, please look here.

I had an HTC for about 20 days...then went back to a clamshell moto...The phone/pda's are not really ? full capacity pda's....at least I couldn't get mine to work as one. I've had an HP iPAQ 4155 since ? Feb. 2004, and none of these mobile phone devices gives me the power or the "usability" I get with my old Win 2003PPC device. Heck, I've traveled around Europe & UK with only this ppc & my stowaway keyboard instead of a full sized laptop for years...I can even do presentations & print from it...Oh yeah...got one of those blue tooth mice too...

I want'ed the HTC to work so bad...but it worked so bad...

Rimmert,

Do you can any specific error? What won't work?

SetRich,

I've had more Windows Mobile devices to count, and I've loved the usage of every one of them. It is just personal preference.

PCPIMP

Hey Brent,

I have a new Windows Mobile 6.1 device and installed your mobile app. I try to run it and get an error about .net 3.5 being installed. It is installed. I even uninstalled and reinstalled it. Any ideas?

Thanks!

PCPIMP

Hey its me again!! I reinstalled it one more time and everything sems to be working! Sweet app! Thanks!

DeWayne

I must be missing something. I have both programs loaded but every time I try to run it on my phone nothing happens. I get the icon showing the program starting but then nothing. It is as if it fails to launch but there are no errors. I have an 8525 running WM6.

Brent Friedman

DeWayne,

Who makes your "8525"?

E

I have the same problem on a ATT Tilt (HTC 8925) running WM6, installed and tried to run, but nothing happens after a loading icon, nothing running in the task manager or in memory

Brent Friedman

E,

Do you have the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 installed on your ATT Tilt?

Arian Kulp

Does this only work with touch-enabled devices? I'm running it on my Motorola Q9c and it crashes instantly with "NotSupportedException" trying to initialize a control instance (Microsoft.AGL.Common.MISC.HandleAr). This is a WM 6.1 device. I am running .NET CF 3.5 on here.

Thanks!

-Arian

Brent Friedman

Arian Kulp,

What edition of WM 6.1 do you have?

Cal

Hey Brent,

I am getting an error as well when I try and Connect from the mobile app. I get an unnexpected error occured in WHS Mobile.exe

Method not found: get_NewLine

System.Environment.

I have a htc Tytan 2 which is the sprint mogul. I am running WM6.1 build 19208.1.0.1.

I have installed .net 3.5 compact and removed and reinstalled the app. I installed to the device first and then removed and readded on the sd card. And now it is back to the device but still get the same error.

Any ideas?

I look forward to getting this running. it sounds like a really cool app.
