TV Manager Beta 3

Okay, so I had a few bugs in Beta 2. Alright, alright, more than a few. Well, here is Beta 3. This beta fixes a few major bugs with some new features thrown in the mix.

Bugs Smashed:

  • Added support for French installations of Windows Home Server. (Used to be a problem with the spelling of Videos)
  • Fixed the Media Center Scheduler service going bonkers. (Modified how the service is changed to run under the current user instead of LocalSystem)
  • Fixed the Problem downloading Guide data bug. (Was a result of changing the account the scheduler service ran under. Fixed by changed the permissions on first run of the client)

Features Scratched off the List:

  • Added logging to the TV Manager client. (You'll get a dialog box telling you to check the event log with the TV Manager category)
  • Automatically loads and refreshes the data for the TV Manager Console Tab.
  • Exit context menu shows up when right clicking the client icon in the system tray.

Upgrade Instructions:

  1. Uninstall the client from the Media Center PC.
  2. Install the new WHS Add-in.
  3. Delete TVManager_MC.msi in \\SERVER\Software\
  4. Deploy the new client.
  5. Install client on Media Center PC via \\SERVER\Software\TVManager_MC.msi
  6. Fix the account the service runs under by following the Service Fix section of this post. (the bug above is only fixed for new users or users that have already applied the fix)
  7. Fix the download Guide data error. (the bug above is only fixed for new users, or users that have already applied the fix)

Service Fix:

  1. Go to run: services.msc
  2. Then, find the service with the name of: Windows Media Center Scheduler Service
  3. Next, double click that service (in the list view).
  4. Click the Logon tab.
  5. Make sure the "This account" radio-button is selected and that the textbox next to it has ".\" and then your account's username. (Ex: .\Brent)
  6. If it isn't, change it so that it is.
  7. Enter in the account's password in the Password and Confirm Password boxes.
  8. Click the General tab.
  9. Click the Start button.
  10. Close Services.

Guide Data Fix:

  1. First on your Media Center PC go to: '%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Ehome\'
  2. Right click on EPG
  3. Choose Properties
  4. Select the Security Tab
  5. Click the edit Button
  6. Click Add
  7. Type in the name of your Windows Account. (Ex: Brent)
  8. Click OK
  9. Check Full Control.
  10. Click OK, and then OK
  11. That's it, you should now be once again able to download guide data.

Dear Brent,

Thank you for making support for french installation.

After following the instructions for upgrade (pos. 1, 2 and 4) i do not find the TVManager_MC.msi in both the D:\shares\software or the D:\shares\Logiciel directories.

I hope you can help.

Jacques

Brent

I am working on a few more fixes for people with French versions of Windows. I figured out that I didn't fix everything as I had thought.

Sorry,

Brent
