TV Manager Beta 2

Well TV Manager Beta 2 is here a day after releasing Beta 1. This fixes all the known issues with a few new features. Well, let's get right to the changes and upgrade instructions.

Changes:

  • Works with MCE 05 and Vista.
  • Works with Scheduled recordings as long as as a user is logged in.
  • You can close Media Center right after recording without file movement being aborted.
  • Deleting recordings from Console does not require a Console restart anymore.
  • Lifextender works using the workaround.
  • The Episode listing on the TV Manager page of the Console now shows the episode description along with a friendlier duration.

Upgrade Instructions:

  1. Uninstall the TV Manager add-in via the Console.
  2. Uninstall the TV Manager plug-in for Media Center via Control Panel (Programs and Features).
  3. Install the new TV Manager build from the download below.
  4. Deploy the new Client application via the TV Manager page in the Console.
  5. On the MCE/Vista PC install \\SERVER\Software\TVManager_MC.msi
  6. You should see a new Vista Media Center icon in your System Tray. If you don't, run C:\Program Files\CompuGeek Software\TV Manager\TVManager.exe

Knwon Upgrade Issues:

  • After upgrade if the TV Manager page in Console crashes when clicking the "Recorded TV" button. Delete Shows.xml in \\SERVER\Videos\Recorded TV\ and copy the already moved shows to the MCE/Vista PC to the Recorded TV directory. The client application will detect the new files and move them back to the server recreating the Shows.xml in the correct format.

Lifextender Workaround:

  1. Change Lifextender to monitor the '\\SERVER\Videos\Recorded TV' instead of 'C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV'

Dear Brent,

I try to install TV Manager on my french WHS. The The add-in is in the console but i cant't find the \\SERVER\Software\TVManager_MC.msi in my server. Its possible because the french WHS use a directory named "Logiciel" and not "Software".

Did you have an advice ?

A+

Jacques

Every time I try to load the console it comes up with an error saying it can't load the add in and when I say try again the console comes up without the add in. This was happening with beta 1 and now beta 2. Is there a log that I can look at?

todd

I have a screen shot if you want

Oerny

All,

same for the german version of WHS. Add-In will install in the console but the MC Add-In can not be found. Any idea?

Many thanks,

Oerny

thommy

thommy

Keith

I'm having the same issue and I'm running the English version of WHS.

Klode

I managed to install the add-in on my french WHS without any problem. I even installed TVManager_MC.msi on the client computer. But when I click on it in start up, it crashes right away stating TV Manager has encountered an error and has to close. Any idea? I went further than others but now I'm stuck there.

I really want this piece of software to work. I've been waiting a long time for it...

Brent,

I have gotten similar problems with my TvManager install, where no tab shows up in the WHS console. To solve this I had to install Whiist, to get the TVmanager Tab to show up. Now it's there.

Second, after installing the TVmanager.MC.msi to my Vista MC box, I no longer have any recorded TV. None. It seems that your program may have told VMC to look in a different location for recorded TV. My original set up was on a secondary hard drive D:// not C:// as is the default. Could this be the problem? How do I get VMC to see my recorded TV again? When I go into settings VMC hangs or fails and restarts. Ugh!

Hackair.

Rich

The install went well but nothing happens. The recorded TV just sits where it allways has. It never moves to the server. When is it supposed to move??

Klode

Looks like a one way blog. Few questions from users, but no answer from the editor since first comment on 7.03.2008.

Anybody in that box or just gone fishin' for the week-end??

Rich

Now some move some dont. Can the ones that dont me draged to the correct location?

Brent

Sorry, I don't usually check the comments here. Please post your questions at: www.wegotserved.co.uk/.../index.php

Klode, there is a fix for the tab now showing in the link above.

Rich, did you deploy the Media Center plug-in to your Media Center PC?
