DVD Manager v0.0.0.10 Alpha

Update: Because of a legal matter with a certain company, I had temporarily removed the download. It is back up but points to version v0.0.0.15.

DVD Manager is an easy (and free) solution to automated DVD ripping using your Windows Home Server. DVD Manager supports ripping to many formats including: a folder, International Standards Organization (ISO), Windows Media Video (WMV), Audio Video Interleave (AVI), and soon more. All you have to do is pop the DVD in, and DVD Manager will do the rest!

DVD Manager does not decrypt your DVDs so you need an on-the-fly dvd decrypter. Supported decrypters include  DVD43 (free) or SlySoft’s AnyDVD (not free).

System Requirements:

Current Rip Modes::

  • To a folder.
  • To an ISO.file.
  • To a WMV file.
  • To an AVI file.

Notes:

  • If you have both AnyDVD and DVD43, DVD Manager will use AnyDVD instead of DVD43.
  • If you have issues with the Home Server Console tab, double check that you have service pack 1 for .NET 3.5.
  • When ripping the DVD to a folder, DVD Manager will go online and grab the front cover saving it as folder.png. This allows Media Center’s DVD Gallery/Videos and Windows Media Player to have a thumbnail provided.
  • With AnyDVD, DVD Manager must first disable AnyDVD before ripping to make grabbing the correct dIsc id possible. This disc id is used for finding the DVD’s title. After getting the required information, AnyDVD is re-enabled and will start scanning the disc removing the encryption. After that, DVD Manager will start ripping and disable AnyDVD when done. The point of this bullet is to point out that using AnyDVD can make the process before ripping a bit slower.

Future Thoughts:

  • Add a way for users to specify a custom codec as long as Mencoder supports it.
  • Create an SDK of some sort.
  • Add an abort feature for canceling ripping.
  • Write up documentation.

pud

maybe have an unattended mode, so you can walk up to the headless server, insert dvd, walk away, and the server will eject the disc when done.

cheers!

This coupled with Mymovie is the ultimate setup. I love my homeserver, keep up the great work and I am really looking forward to more DVD manager addons!!!

Good to see you got your server back up! I just tried processing my first DVD and got this error:

12/20/2008 10:25:52 PM Error Ripping DVD to ISO. Fatal Error while Ripping DVD.

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {2C941FC5-975B-59BE-A960-9A2A262853A5} failed due to the following error: 80040154. at DVD_Manager.SDK.Core.Ripper.Rip2ISO()

Ever seen that one? If you can go into HKCR/CLSID and see what DLL that ID points to, maybe we could narrow down the problem?

Thanks!

pud,

That is what DVD Manager does.

reddragon72,

Thank you. :-)

Wayne,

Did you install the IMAPV2 update for Server 2003? It is required for ISO mode.

Wayne

Holy hell, have I really become so arrogant that I can't even read the install instructions that are right there?!

Wow, I'm pretty embarrassed about now. I'll install IMAPv2 and give it a try. Thanks!!

By the way, I would have posted this on wegotserved, but the server isn't sending me my validation code for some reason.

Cory

Just wondering... when I select WMV as the Rip Type, it outputs to TS folders.. any ideas? I'm assuming that the WMV output would spit out just a single WMV file?

Cory

Nevermind... after reading the log there was an error. The next disc I tried worked fine.
